My review of Thomas Suddendorf’s The Gap: The Science of What Separates Us from Other Animals, published in Science (Vol. 344, May 2014). The book argues the gap comes down to two things — imagining the future and reading other minds — and I take an honest look at how our own humanness keeps confounding the question.
